Figure 1: Semidiurnal internal tide energy fluxes within 500 show a distinct spring-neap cycle. Fluxes are offshore (blue) during the spring tides when internal tides are generated locally, and are onshore (red) when internal tides generated at other remote locations shoal onto the Oregon slope.

Figure 2: A snapshot of a deep internal bore on the Oregon Slope captured during a 36-hour LADCP/CTD survey.  At yearday 265.4, the front of Bore A first reaches the LADCP (black arrows).  This is characterized by cross-isobath (zonal) velocity (a) abruptly switching from down- (blue) to upslope (red) and along-isobath (meridional) velocity switching from south (blue, b) to north (red).  At the same time, isopycnals lift sharply (black lines) as the 80-m thick dense, cool (c), and salty (d) bore moves up the slope.  After the bore front passes (after yearday 265.4), dissipation rates are elevated above background levels (e) and the water becomes more turbid (red, f).
